A TripAdvisor⢠TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Arequipa, Peru by TravelPod blogger Tawildman titled "Arequipa, La Ciudad Blanca" Tawildman's travel blog entry: "So we arrived in Arequipa, in southwestern Peru, last Thursday the 20th after a long (13 hr) night bus from Pisco, in which my non-movement on the bus must of affected the circulation thru my left knee, which proceeded to ache for about the next 2 days. So we rolled into Arequipa, found a room for 4 at a nice hostal, and proceeded to sleep until that night, when we decided we needed to do a little partying and so we hit the streets and proceeded to bar-hop until late, sampling some good street food including salchipapas (french fries, noodles, and hot dog mixed with ketchup, mayo, picante, and other seasonings) and saltenas, kind of like empanadas but more filling. Joe and Jason tried picking up some Peruvian ladies, then realized later that they really were not worth picking up. I decided my pisco sour was enough of a date for me, and was treating me pretty well anyways. So the next few days we just checked out the city, which is very nice and reminds me of Cusco...a beautiful Plaza de Armas, said to be the most beautiful in all of Peru, filled with palm trees and a huge foundtain, bordered on 3 sides by huge stone-arch walkways and on the 4th side by a huge Catholic cathedral. Huge volcanoes loom in the distance, located right outside of town, and are constant reminders of your mortality. Its a great city ...
